Teacher perception of virtual classrooms and simulation in Integration subjects medical

The Department of Integration of Medical Sciences (DICiM) carries out two active learning
educational strategies: Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Simulation-Based Education (EBS), looking for the integration and application of basic and clinical knowledge. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a hybrid model was developed and incorporated the development of Virtual Classrooms (AV) per subject on the Moodle platform, in which the educational resources necessary to achieve the learning objectives and results were housed. Objective: To know the perspective of teachers from the Department of Integration of Medical Sciences on the usefulness of virtual classrooms and simulation learning in the scope of learning outcomes of academic programs. Methods: An exploratory, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was carried out; an instrument was applied to assess the usefulness of VA in the performance of competencies. Results: The percentage of teachers who considered that VA favors the fulfillment of the learning results of the integration subjects was 37.5%, considering that they are achieved in a proportion between 76 and 100%. 66.2% of teachers believed that they contribute less than 50% to learning the subjects. Discussion: Incorporating virtual learning strategies to develop competencies represents an essential challenge in medical education since there are different levels of domains that the student must achieve to acquire the competency. Among the methodological limitations in the research development were the sample size and the asymmetric distribution according to the subject taught, and when developing the form, it was not submitted to a validation process. Conclusions: The VA’s facilitated, promoted, and complemented the PBL and EBS strategies, promoting reflection and the development of competencies.
