About the Journal

The Journal of Simulation in Health Sciences (RevSimCS) of the UNAM Faculty of Medicine is a biannual scientific publication with the objective of disseminating information on new research, experiences in simulation, reviews and letters at a national and international level. to the editor on topics in the area of ​​clinical simulation.

The magazine is aimed at health professionals, simulation educators, researchers, teachers, technicians, students, biomedical engineers and anyone interested in simulation in health sciences, and everything related to simulation-based education with the purpose to improve their professional activity.

The opinions expressed by the authors do not necessarily reflect the position of the editor of the publication or UNAM. Partial or total reproduction of the texts published here is authorized, provided that the source and electronic address of the publication are cited.

Peer Arbitration
The journal uses double-blind peer review system. The first evaluation is carried out by the editor to ensure that the manuscript is relevant to the objectives of the journal. If favorable, the manuscript is sent to two independent reviewers who evaluate the scientific quality of the manuscript. The editor is responsible for the final decision on whether to accept or reject the article for publication.

Double blind review
During the refereeing process, authors and reviewers are anonymous. The first page has the authors' information such as the title, names, postal address and email of the corresponding author, acknowledgments, affiliations, and conflict of interest statements.
The blinded manuscript does not have the authors' data, it corresponds to the content of the article including figures, tables, tables, references and acknowledgments without information that identifies the authors or affiliations.

Open access journal
This open access journal is sponsored by the Faculty of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, which subsidizes part of the editing and editorial management costs.

Rights of access
Articles published with open access will be immediately and permanently free for the entire community interested in reading, downloading, copying and distributing them.

Ethical responsibilities
Any manuscript that involves research on human beings must strictly adhere to the standards of the responsible human experimentation committee (institutional or regional) and in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki of the World Medical Association, and when necessary the authors must confirm the obtaining informed consent.
In manuscripts on research in education, authors must report the approval of the institutional body, whether Research or Ethics Committees, as well as report that there was no harm and guarantee the anonymity of anyone who participated.


PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPTS

The rules are specific for each section, however, the font must be in Arial, size 12, line spacing 1.5, justified, the file must be sent in Word format, editable in .doc or .docx, to the email: dicim.editorial@facmed.unam.mx. The corresponding author will receive a confirmation message regarding receipt of the manuscript, the process and the opinion issued will be informed.
The manuscript will be anonymous for the peer review process, it will not have identifying information. Avoid using gerunds and abbreviations, if necessary, make the description the first time you use them in the text. Use the International System of Units when expressing scientific units.

Presentation letter
Every manuscript must be sent with a cover letter specifying the section of the journal in which you wish to apply your contribution, the declaration that the work is original and is not in the process of evaluation by any other scientific journal, mentioning the originality of the contribution and the relevance of the work for the journal, confirm that they have considered the information for the authors and ethical responsibilities, in addition to declaring the existence or not of a conflict of interest as on the first page of the manuscript. The letter must be signed by all authors who meet the authorship requirements. When the manuscript has been published in another journal, the details must be specified and declared that they have the declaration permissions of the authors and their editor.

Letter of transfer of rights
When the manuscript is accepted for publication, authors are requested to send a letter of transfer of rights signed by all authors involved in the manuscript, transferring copyright to the Faculty's Journal of Simulation in Health Sciences of Medicine at UNAM.

Interest conflict
A conflict of interest arises when an author had or has economic or personal relationships that could have biased or influenced his or her actions. Authors will specify in the cover letter any financial or personal relationships at the time of writing or submitting the manuscript.

Permit obtainment
The authors are responsible for requesting permission prior to sending the manuscript, regarding the reproduction of figures, tables or charts. If the work was funded by an institution, the authors must obtain publication permission.


SPECIFIC RULES FOR EACH SECTION

Editorials. The writing is in charge of the Editorial Committee, with exceptions; and current topics of general interest in the field of simulation-based education in health sciences will be addressed. It will have a length of 400 to 800 words, with a maximum of 10 bibliographical citations. It can include up to 2 authors.

Original articles. This is the main section of the journal, they are articles on research, innovation and application of simulation in health sciences education, which have not been previously published, with the following format: introduction, material and methods, results, discussion and conclusions. A structured summary in Spanish and English must be included, with an extension of no more than 300 words.

The first page should have the following structure:

  • The main title of the manuscript in Spanish and English must be up to 15 words.
  • Short title in Spanish and English of up to 10 words for the page header.
  • Name of each author.
  • Institutional affiliation(s), academic degrees and position held by each author.
  • Corresponding author with telephone and email.
  • Contribution of each author.
  • Previous presentations in other formats, conferences or congresses.
  • Financing if applicable.
  • Gratefulness.
  • Conflict of interest, declare what is pertinent.

The manuscript begins on the second page, will be anonymous and must have the following structure:

  • Summary: it will be structured in four sections: Introduction (including the objective), material and methods, results, discussion and conclusion, the maximum length of the text will be 300 words, in Spanish and English.
  • Include keywords in Spanish and English, maximum 5, preferably MeSH terms (Medical Subject Headings).
  • The content of the manuscript must have the structure: Introduction, material and methods, results, discussion and conclusion, contain a maximum of 4000 words (not including summary or bibliography), with a maximum of 30 bibliographic citations, and up to 5 figures or tables will be admitted.

Tables, figures or tables:

Send in separate files from the manuscript in editable format, in color or black and white, the title is placed at the top and the description and footer of the table, figure or table at the bottom. Each one must be separated by a page break and cited in the text. A maximum of 5 tables, figures or tables are allowed to be included.

All photographs, graphs, schemes and diagrams must be referred to as Figures, and numbered consecutively in the text with Arabic numerals (e.g. Figure 1).

Tables and tables must be sent in editable Word format, the title of each table must be understandable even without the manuscript; It should include type of data, number and type of subjects, place and year of the study. The title should be placed above the table, not in a data cell. Columns should be clearly labeled, including the unit of measure.

The figures must have the final size in which you want them to be displayed. Files must be greater than 2,000 pixels or 300 dpi, in JPEG, or PNG in the author's best interest of providing the optimal quality format for the figures. We recommend that authors use the guidelines for figure preparation from the BMC Medical Education journal, available at: http://www.biomedcentral.com//info/ifora/figures.

In the case of photographs or patient data, the authors must attach to the manuscript the written informed consent authorizing its publication, reproduction and dissemination in the Journal of Simulation in Health Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine, UNAM.Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce previously published material (text, tables or figures). These permissions must be requested from both the author and the publisher that has published said material.

Bibliography:
Citations and references should be numbered consecutively in alphabetical order. References must be recent and relevant, carefully written with the American Psychological Association (APA) format, it is recommended to consult the following manual on APA Standards 7th edition Citation and referencing guide

Review articles
They are manuscripts focused on current topics relevant to the magazine, with the aim of expanding understanding of a specific topic with greater depth than a summary of relevant literature. The writing is in charge of the Editorial Committee, with exceptions. It will have a maximum length of 2,500 words including the abstract. They must include the unstructured summary with a maximum length of 250 words in Spanish and English, with up to 3 keywords in Spanish and English. A maximum of 20 bibliographic citations in APA format and up to 3 figures, tables or tables are allowed.

Simulation experiences

It is a brief essay about the simulation experiences that they want to share with the community of simulationists. You must provide the relevant information, strengths and opportunities that you wish to express, as well as strategies and innovation in simulation.
This contribution must have a maximum length of 2,000 words and must include title, authors, origin, summary of the content with the general objectives of the manuscript. The structure must have introduction, development, discussion, conclusions and bibliographic references in APA format t and up to 2 figures, tables or tables are allowed.

Letters to the editor

Readers may send comments or considerations regarding articles recently published in the magazine and, or, relevant articles published in other magazines. The maximum length will be 350 words with a maximum of three bibliographic references in APA format.
