Abstract

Introduction: Simulation-based education requires trained personnel to be able to carry out the activities that are developed with this technique; emphasis has been placed on the training of the simulation educator, but little has been written regarding the role of the simulation operations technician or simulation technician, especially in Mexico there are no reports about this human resource. Objective: to describe the roles and functions of the technician in simulation in centers of Mexico and to know the training needs of simulation technicians. Material and methods: a descriptive
and cross-sectional study was carried out in three stages: design of the data collection instrument through a Google Forms document, data collection and analysis through the JASP software; Cronbach’s alpha was determined. Results: There was a sample
of 44 simulation centers, from 15 states of Mexico, 32.8% have a simulation technician; the centers that do not have a simulation technician cover these functions with the simulation educator in 65%, services within from the institution by 15%, external
services by 10% and 9% by others.
Conclusions: The simulation technician is a professional whose functions require specific competencies that influence the simulation experience that students live. It was identified that more than half of the simulation centers do not have a simulation technician, which can cause counterproductive events derived from ignorance of the operation of the technology due to lack of training or overload of functions, it is necessary to carry out more investigations of this topic.
